Parkwood Leisure has launched a programme of workshops, aimed at making our staff more aware of mental health issues among the workforce.

The Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace workshops will cover communication and listening skills that will enable management to have conversations with their employees. They will also learn what mental health is and recognise the risk factors associated with it, as well as being taught to identify common signs and symptoms of mental ill-health.

As part of its commitment to supporting others, Parkwood Leisure has helped to deliver clean water to 440 people in South Sudan through its latest clean water project with charity partner DROP4DROP.

Building on the successes of the past 12 months and with a chance to share the vision for the future of the business, Parkwood Leisure welcomed staff from across the organisation to its annual Manager’s Conference and Awards at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, earlier this month.

The theme of this year’s conference, ‘Parkwood’s DNA’, provided the perfect opportunity to reflect on the core values of Parkwood and a chance for the senior team to share new innovations, ways of working and future plans for the business as part of its strategy for continued growth over the next three to five years.

Parkwood Leisure, one of the UK’s leading leisure operators, has been shortlisted for two awards at the upcoming 2019 Energy Awards.

In recognition of the company’s efforts, Parkwood has been nominated for both the ‘Energy Data Collection and Analysis’ and ‘Behavioural Change/Employee Engagement’ categories. Parkwood’s Energy Performance League Table initiative has been shortlisted for the ‘Energy Data Collection and Analysis’ award, which recognises the importance of monitoring and targeting, metering and measuring energy use.

Buxton Pavilion Gardens has re-launched its Retail Hall to the public, showcasing the very best Buxton has to offer in locally produced goods.

The Pavilion Retail Hall will be a reinterpretation of the traditional “Market Hall” for tourists and locals alike. The charming space will have an intriguing mix of Retail and impressive culinary offerings as well as works from more than 40 local artists being available that will make it a standout experience for the customer.

Parkwood Leisure made a splash during June taking part in Drowning Prevention Week 2019. Parkwood Leisure have attended over 150 assemblies to raise awareness for this national campaign with the RLSS. National Aquatics Lead Suzanne Gabb (also a Trustee of RLSS) personally delivered some of the assemblies for the Water Safety Passport presentation.

Parkwood Leisure, one of the UK’s leading leisure facilities operators, has secured a new 15-year lease to run Grange Leisure & Community Centre, part of Stratton St Margaret Parish Council, from July 2019.

As part of the new agreement, Parkwood will receive £850,000 investment from the council to support the redevelopment of the Wiltshire-based facility, with plans to upgrade the gym including new equipment and a dedicated functional training area, plus two new fitness studios, alongside wider centre renovations.    

Parkwood Leisure were proud to host a ‘spade in the ground’ event, marking the start of construction works for Broughton Astley’s state of the art leisure centre. This project is being built as part of a major community enhancement, encouraging sports, well-being, fitness and family activities to all residents and general public in the surrounding area.

It is a fact that women make up are half the population, yet they are under represented within sport and the fitness industry. In the centenary year of women’s right to vote, the rise of social media’s #metoo and This Girl Can campaign it has become even more prevalent to highlight important female figures and how they shape both our workforce and our business.
