Penzance Leisure Centre will host blood donation sessions today (Thursday 26th March) following an emergency request from NHS Blood and Transplant.

The Parkwood Leisure facility, which is currently closed under government guidance, will turn its sports hall into a temporary blood donor centre in support of the NHS’s efforts to keep donor appointments.

The Pavilion Gardens welcomed guests from the worlds of politics and media last week (30 January), as the popular visitor attraction hosted BBC’s Question Time.

The debate programme, which is filmed at a different location each week, welcomes members of the public to pose questions and discuss topical issues.

Wednesday 18th December, 2019 – Swansea’s Plantasia have been announced as winners of the Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers’ (ABWAK) Environmental Enrichment Grant. The national competition is aimed at animal keepers and zoos throughout Britain and Ireland, and aims to encourage the use of enrichment of animals in their habitats.

Tuesday 10th December 2019 – Plantasia, the rainforest zoo in Parc Tawe, Swansea, has announced a new partnership with the Welsh Rugby Players Association (WRPA) to provide unique experiences for players and their families.

The WRPA, a registered trade union for all professional players in Wales, is mandated by its members to act in their collective best interest in relation to player welfare and issues affecting the game in Wales.

Wednesday 27th November, 2019 – It was a hat trick of award wins for Parkwood Leisure earlier this month, with three of the operator’s Welsh facilities being recognised at regional and national awards ceremonies.

The 2019 Welsh Hospitality Awards, an annual event which celebrates the efforts of businesses from across the industry, saw nominations for Dolygaer (‘Best Day Out’), plus Cardiff International Pool & Gym and Plantasia (‘Family Venue of the Year’).

Charlotte Wilkins picked up the award in recognition of the outstanding efforts shown during her Level 3 AAT Accounting Qualification

Monday 2nd December 2019 – Former Parkwood Leisure apprentice Charlotte Wilkins was awarded with the Excellence in Accountancy award at last week’s Hereford and Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA) Annual Apprentice Awards.

Parkwood Leisure is always proud of the work that its staff does for charity and this month is no exception, as lifeguard Emma Redgate has been chosen to take part in the 2019 BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge.

Emma, based at Rushcliffe Arena Leisure Centre, was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia aged just 10 months, resulting in her undergoing two liver transplants. In 2017, Emma then suffered a seizure which led to her being unable to walk and having difficulty with her sight.

As part of the £1.3 million investment to improve facilities and activities for customers, Parkwood Leisure – in partnership with Erewash Borough Council – has completed another milestone with the launch of the soft play area and café at West Park Leisure Centre.

Aimed at children up to the age of six years old, the new soft play area will provide a fun, interactive learning environment and will include a rope bridge, climbing areas, spider’s web maze and other areas; parents will be able to keep a watchful eye whilst relaxing and having refreshments in the new coffee pod café area, which will be available to all customers and visitors to West Park Leisure Centre.

Parkwood Leisure is excited to announce that the construction work at the new £4.5m Broughton Astley Leisure Centre is nearing completion.

With the site set to open in early December, the build is running ahead of schedule; the first member of the new centre has also been announced as Clive Grafton-Reed, chairman of Broughton Astley Parish Council.

Clive has been very supportive of the new facility and is passionate about delivering much-needed leisure provision to the community of Broughton. He said: “The new facility will finally provide the residents of Broughton Astley a place to exercise within the Parish. Residents have been campaigning for over 30 years to have a leisure facility and this is now a reality.”
