Parkwood Named Water Leisure Operator of the Year

Parkwood, which operates 44 pool and watersport sites on behalf of local authorities in England and Wales, was named Water Leisure Operator of the Year at the 2016 UK Pool and Spa Awards.

Former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies presented the award at a ceremony held at Birmingham’s Resort World. The 2016 Awards were the biggest yet, with 27 categories, over 140 entries and 1,500 individual votes from the public. The actual event was attended by 210 key personnel from the water leisure industry, including Olympic swimmer and popular sports TV presenter Sharron Davies MBE.

Judges were impressed by how Parkwood manages its water leisure sites - which range from 25m and 50m public swimming pools to outdoor activity centres - and the way that it has increased participation levels.

The award also recognised Parkwood’s approach to staff training, including its successful apprenticeship programme, as well as its customer focus and support for charities.

Suzanne Gabb, Parkwood Leisure’s national aquatics manager said: “We have a fantastic team which works extremely hard to provide well-managed and safe environments for people to enjoy swimming and other water-based activities. This award is testament to their efforts and we’re all delighted to win.”
