Parkwood Named South Northamptonshire Preferred Bidder

A £4.5million investment in leisure facilities in Brackley and Towcester is one step closer after South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) appointed Parkwood Leisure as ‘preferred bidder’ for the district’s leisure operator and improvements contract.

Highlights of the investment include new swimming provision at Brackley Leisure Centre and a rejuvenation of Towcester Centre for Leisure (TCFL).

Parkwood Leisure Limited was awarded the preferred bidder status in December and since then has been working with SNC to finalise plans for both sites.

Along with the new 25m, six lane swimming pool, learner pool and wet changing village in Brackley, the centre will get a new reception, café, meeting room, refurbished dry-side changing facilities, a bespoke spinning studio, and a new 100 station health and fitness suite.

TCFL will also undergo general refurbishment work to wet and dry changing rooms, replacement IT equipment, re-branding of the café, new fitness equipment, and spinning bikes, which will all be installed under the same programme of work.

Cllr Rosie Herring, SNC’s portfolio holder for community engagement and wellbeing, said:  “This is fantastic news for the residents of Brackley and surrounding areas.

“It has been an aspiration for SNC to expand access to swimming and enhance the leisure offer within the district, whilst making better use of the existing facilities.”

Parkwood Leisure Limited are now working with SNC to finalise the plans for both sites and design concepts will go on display in all three centres between Monday, 22 February and Friday, 11 March 2016 inclusive. Questions and feedback can be emailed to and there will be comment cards at the leisure centre during the displays.

Subject to planning consent being granted, the new facility should be completed by October, 2017.  Swimming will continue during the building works at Brackley Pool in Manor Road.

Negotiations on the future of the Manor Road site are underway with owners of the site, Northants County Council.

Staff currently employed at the leisure centres will be transferred to the new contractors and no redundancies are expected.

Commenting on the announcement, Joanne Martin, Sales and Marketing Director at Parkwood, said "We are very pleased to be working with South Northamptonshire Council and we are looking forward to bringing a wide range of improvements to the centres and the local area."
